After failing to capture their new nemesis (Balthazar Bratt) from threatening humanity, Gru is fired from the Anti-Villain League and his new wife super-spy Lucy, played by Kristen Wiig, are now stripped of their crime-fighting credentials by the tough new management, Jenny Slate.
Still on the plot of this new storyline, Gru soon finds himself in the midst of a major identity crisis and the stresses of unemployment were temporarily put on hold when Gru learns from his estranged mother, played by Julie Andrews, that he has a twin brother, Dru, from whom they both got separated at birth.
Gru, his wife Lucy alongside his three adopted daughters Margo, voiced by Miranda Cosgrove, Edith by Dana Gaier and finally the ever adorable Agnes, voiced by Nev Scharrel, jets off to the cheese-loving island nation of Freedonia, where his twin brother Dru dwells and oversees his thriving and successful pig farm. Although Dru is obsessed with following in his brother’s once-bad footsteps, Dru ultimately turns out to be a stupider and noisier version of Gru.

As expected, this weekend Transformers will face three newcomers, Universal's animated sequel Despicable Me 3, The House and Sony's Baby Driver, which is reported to open in theaters in June 28, 2017. Its anticipated that Despicable Me 3 should have no problem taking the top spot with a projected $90.2 million.
The Despicable Me franchise has been on the rise significantly after enjoying a fairly modest beginnings way back in 2010. The first Despicable Me movie opened at the box office with a solid $56.3 million from 3,476 theaters, $251.5 million domestic and $543.1 million worldwide, from a $69 million budget.
The follow-up Despicable Me 2 in 2013 was also rolled out in roughly 500 more theaters than its predecessor, debuting with an impressive $83.5 million, $368 million domestic and $970.7 million worldwide, from a $76 million budget.
Then finally comes the 2015 spin-off Minions earned roughly $200 million more internationally than Despicable Me 2, with its foreign take of $823.3 million bringing its worldwide total to $1.15 billion, the second highest grossing animated movie of all time behind Frozen which reportedly earned $1.2 billion.
The Animated Film Despicable Me 3 was produced by Illumination’s Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy, and executive produced by Chris Renaud,
In this somewhat not so different twist however, the Minions seem to resign in protest and spend most of their time off by themselves, completely unmindful to their former master Gru (Shocker).
Now, it’s an
undeniable fact that there certainly is something new and fresh about the
entire world and characters of Despicable Me when it first arrived in 2010. However,
it was the Minions spin-off in 2015 which first began to make it feel like the icing
all of the Despicable Me franchise.
Despicable Me 3 may yet arguably be one of the
most overstuffed animated films to come around in a while. This obviously keeps
it from truly finding a more suitable organization at any point throughout.
